Rolly King Kohansky

Rolly King Kohansky was born and educated in Montreal, Canada. She worked as a Radio, TV, and Print Copywriter for a number of high profile clients. She came to live in Israel in 1969 where she continued to work at her profession, writing promotional material about Israeli-made-goods, products and services aimed at overseas markets.

Volunteers including many non-Jews from all over the world support Sar-El, a volunteer project of the Israel Defense Forces. They come to Israel at their own expense for three weeks, live in barracks, work an eight-hour day in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, retirement homes, and also enjoy lectures and cultural events.

They have been published in one volume by the Gallaudet University Press, USA, an institution that is dedicated to the education of the deaf and hard of hearing. Dvora Shurman’s parents were both deaf and she became deaf due to a childhood illness – but with a loving father and family help and modern advancements she has led a fulfilling life in the USA and then in Israel. In “The Silent World” Mary Rivers story is about her son who was born deaf. Although poor and uneducated she fought for her son to be educated and also for the hearing world to understand the problems of the deaf.
