ISSUE 152 - Dec 2009/Jan 2010
FROM THE EDITOR
Life changes. ESRA life changes. People move. In this issue we read that three of our earliest and most active volunteer leaders have relocated from the center of the country to the north (Carmiel region) and south (Sderot). Two formerly very active branches, dormant for many long years, have been reignited – Hadar (Kfar Yona area) and Modiin. ESRA Magazine has always featured environmental and recycling issues. More...
As our articles are categorized in various columns, watch out for the small recycling symbol next to the relevant column title. You will find it in three articles “Reusable WHAT?”, “From Grey to Green” and “Saving Water”. Apropos changes, time runs on and suddenly we are tens of years older. This reality is captured well in “The Move” and “Never Too Old to Dance”. We always hear of the negativity of the press world-wide, but as you well know the ESRA Magazine brings you the positive, active sides of our life in Israel. “White Knight on Four Wheels” features an aspect of the security crossings of which many of us are unaware. We were fortunate to be given the rights to publish some of the beautiful paintings by artist Ludwig Blum from a current exhibition. They appear on our cover, in “Family Connections” and “The Real and the Ideal: The Painting of Ludwig Blum”. There are some fascinating articles on Israel & the Diaspora – an encounter with an Indian Chief, International Air Cadets visit Israel, an Irish-Israel organization, and the Yalies of Israel. The travelers, hikers and photographers amongst you will enjoy “Three generations on a Safari”, “The Changing Face of the US”, “Ramadan in Istanbul” and a “Jeep trip in Tibet”. Maybe our women readers will become inspired by “Every Woman a Winner”. There are stories about amazing people: “Anna & I”, “Footprints in the Sands of Time”, “Lingualink “. All our regular columns are here in this issue: Religion, Cinema, Books, Consumer, Food/Wine, Looking Back, Crossword, Humor – so check these contents pages and have fun reading and absorbing. Close
